Three interns will make our fair Possible. How? The Ranching History Fair will host 1,000 visitors over two days. To bring this many visitors to our event, we will embark on an extensive public relations campaign, create a website, and design fun, historically-valid activities and entertainment. With a shoestring budget and an all-volunteer workforce -- the fair is a fundraiser as well as a fun community event -- we will rely heavily on our PR, Web, and History interns. The interns will work 10+ hours/week for six months. Making their stipends our top priority expresses our appreciation for their hard work and commitment, right from the get-go. We’ll seek an additional $1,000 from sponsors so each intern will receive $500.

This $500 will be used specifically and immediately. I am partnering with the national Police Activities League program for the 5th grade boys. $200 will go toward funding their admission into this program, which parents have indicated they cannot pay, and the school does not have.$200 will fund the business suits, shoes, dress shirts, and ties that students will wear. Many boys lack basic clothes, let alone have the resources to dress for success. Lastly, $100 will go toward purchasing history-related books for the older elementary students. I am also partnering with a high school literacy mentor program, and the boys will engage in book studies. This $100 will allow the boys to actually own a book and start their at-home library.

The $500 would go towards a day to prevent bullying at the high school. The money would be needed to hire speakers to talk about the prevention bullying and equality within the school. Speakers such as www.rachelschalenge.org which Rachel has had the privilege of already viewing. This presentation has had such an impact on Rachel's life, and she believes it would impact others in her school as well. Due to the lack of funds for speakers at Tri-Valley, the $500 would be greatly needed to hire them. Any leftover money would go towards shirts and pamphlets to hand out to students about anti-bullying.

We shall use the $500 to purchase 60 corrugated iron sheets for roofing a four classroom block. This block will provide classroom space for kindergarten and primary one kids who are currently congested in one shade which is already falling apart. Parents and community members have pledged other building materials and one member donated the land for the school.

The $500 award will cover the cost of two Elders and Mothers workshops with an average of 100 participants per event. These workshops will focus on facilitating discussions among adult members of the Maasai community about age-old cultural beliefs and traditions that prevent girls from enrolling in and completing primary school. We will also demonstrate how the education of girls benefits their families and communities.

The $500 award would be an incredible supplement to our campus budget, enabling us to offset bus transportation costs to the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

This award will help fund the short documentary I plan to make after I've collected all my data in Venezuela. Specifically, I will use this money in part of my travels so I can access different parts of Venezuela to make this research paper and video report possible. It is important to speak to as many people as possible while visiting the country for the first time. I have plans to interview women leaders in government positions and women living in rural areas of the country. My plan is to live in a barrio in Barquisimeto and do an ethnographic research project.

Every dollar donated is so important to creating hope, strength, and joy for the children we serve. A gift of $500 will help us during this record breaking year. 113 kids are expected to get their wish this year, which will be the most in our state’s history. Many additional funding opportunities are needed to ensure that none of the kids are put on a waiting list. It is our goal to provide a wish tailored for each child. We try to pull out all the stops from limo rides to meals to souvenirs for the whole family. Each wish costs roughly $7,500, the $500 could help pay for a plane ticket, a hotel room, or part of a shopping spree. If we raise the funds to achieve our record breaking year, we will be on track to reach our 2000th wish.

Young women have the passion and vision to solve the problems plaguing their communities, but they simply lack the necessary training, guidance and resources. Our programs empower young women to be leaders by providing them with leadership training, skills building, mentoring, and a peer-support network. The $500 will go directly to our programs, specifically to cover the costs of our Leadership Institute, a two-week leadership development course where 30 promising female leaders gain knowledge on issues such as women’s rights, acquire professional skills such as public speaking, engage with older Nepali female leaders, participate in political and service learning trips and form a peer support group of young leaders.

$500 would allow for us to make targeted ads to get the message out even further to more people who care about the cause. We'd also like to fund a small Facebook give-away of a RaspberryPi coding device, since they will likely be the computers used in our future learning centers, and it would further connect our fans with the concept of our ultimate goal. (Or perhaps $500 is enough to bribe Oprah to feature it in her book club?)

The Award would allow us to resource our three Oakland campuses with more laptops. These additional resources would allow students to participate in Khan Academy, the innovative educational tool which teaches math, science, and history. We have successfully run this program at middle schools along the San Francisco Peninsula and would like to provide our Oakland students with the same opportunity. The laptops would also serve our core program of volunteer-led "apprenticeship" courses (especially in the STEM fields), academic support, and college and career readiness.

Currently, my posted project needs $500 to be fully funded. If I received this award, I would be able to receive the incubator and additional life cycle scaffolds and supports to enrich the lives of my young students. My students are such eager and motivated learners. They are enthusiastic about learning, but often come unprepared to handle the rigorous standards and high expectations set forth by their grade level. Students are diverse and come with a range of abilities and talents. As their teacher, I believe no matter this range, all my students can succeed and reach mastery. Having these resources awarded to my classroom will allow me, year after year, to literally bring science to life!

We would use the $500 award to find more professionals and organizations who can teach apprenticeships with Citizen Schools. In Newark, we are not limited by student motivation or capability - we're limited by a lack of professionals in the classroom. We know those professionals are out there, and they're full of skills + motivation. They just need a channel to make a difference, and Citizen Schools apprenticeships offer that opportunity. A $500 award enables us to expand our recruitment efforts by meeting and cultivating more professionals, which will ultimately lead to improved academic results and character skill building for students in low-income, high-need areas.

This money would allow the family to send all of their children to school worry free for the year and allow them to save up their income for years to come. Rosa, the mother, expressed to me last summer that she was not sure how all four of them would be able to finish their schooling. The news was heartbreaking. Ive watched each of these children grow and learn over the past three years and to see that come to a halt would devastate me. $500 would be enough to pay the uniforms and supplies for each of the children.

These funds will go directly toward our program and assist a student in Kenya towards paying his/her school fees. We have a number of qualified students who could truly benefit from this grant. $500 means another boy or girl has been given a chance at an education that will change his/her future. One such student is Eliza, an orphaned student we are raising funds for via social fundraising. This $500 grant would be added to the $200 we have already managed to raise for her and this would help cover one year of schooling!
