My daughter, Rachel, who is going into her junior year of high school, has made it aware that her school has bullying issues. Not much is done when a situation concerning bullying comes to attention at her school (Tri-Valley Sr./Jr. High) Since Rachel is only 16, I am speaking on her behalf. Recently, Rachel attended a leadership seminar called HOBY. HOBY truly showed Rachel what it meant to be equal to those around her, and would love to share that equality with her school. To her it feels impossible for her fellow class mates to break down the "popularity barrier" Serious things could happen if bullying doesn't stop such as self harm, and suicide. To finally break down those walls would be life changing for many students ad families.
The $500 would go towards a day to prevent bullying at the high school. The money would be needed to hire speakers to talk about the prevention bullying and equality within the school. Speakers such as www.rachelschalenge.org which Rachel has had the privilege of already viewing. This presentation has had such an impact on Rachel’s life, and she believes it would impact others in her school as well. Due to the lack of funds for speakers at Tri-Valley, the $500 would be greatly needed to hire them. Any leftover money would go towards shirts and pamphlets to hand out to students about anti-bullying.
Achieving this impossible would touch the lives of so many students at Tri-Valley which would then start a chain reaction of equality within the community and neighboring areas. "Rachel's Challenge" is such an inspirational presentation that has inspired all who have had the privilege to view it. The students would begin to view each other as equals and reach out to each other. This would affect them throughout their whole lives to do great things, and touch those in need.
