Anti-Bullying Day

What is your Impossible and how will you achieve it?

My daughter, Rachel, who is going into her junior year of high school, has made it aware that her school has bullying issues. Not much is done when a situation concerning bullying comes to attention at her school (Tri-Valley Sr./Jr. High) Since Rachel is only 16, I am speaking on her behalf. Recently, Rachel attended a leadership seminar called HOBY. HOBY truly showed Rachel what it meant to be equal to those around her, and would love to share that equality with her school. To her it feels impossible for her fellow class mates to break down the "popularity barrier" Serious things could happen if bullying doesn't stop such as self harm, and suicide. To finally break down those walls would be life changing for many students ad families.

Explain how the $500 award will allow you to overcome your Impossible.

The $500 would go towards a day to prevent bullying at the high school. The money would be needed to hire speakers to talk about the prevention bullying and equality within the school. Speakers such as www.rachelschalenge.org which Rachel has had the privilege of already viewing. This presentation has had such an impact on Rachel’s life, and she believes it would impact others in her school as well. Due to the lack of funds for speakers at Tri-Valley, the $500 would be greatly needed to hire them. Any leftover money would go towards shirts and pamphlets to hand out to students about anti-bullying.

Once you achieve your impossible, how will you share your experience to inspire others to achieve their impossible?

Achieving this impossible would touch the lives of so many students at Tri-Valley which would then start a chain reaction of equality within the community and neighboring areas. "Rachel's Challenge" is such an inspirational presentation that has inspired all who have had the privilege to view it. The students would begin to view each other as equals and reach out to each other. This would affect them throughout their whole lives to do great things, and touch those in need.

I agree with Tanya. As one of the "unpopular" students at this school, it is really hard. A lot of the "popular" kids are very mean, and when we try to bring it to the adults attention not much is done about it. I have two younger siblings in the elementary schools and they get bullied a lot. It's hard to see them go through this stuff! Good luck, Tri-Valley!

check Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Tolerance Program. They have a wonderful documentary and teaching materials free to all schools called "Bullied". It is the story of a now grown man who was Bullied in school, not protected by schools and teachers.

definitely a great idea! My little brother who is going into 10th grade got bullied so often that some days he flat out refused to even wake up for school, almost like he had no motivation anymore which made me very frustrated that absolutely nothing was done about it despite the several times my parents went to the HS about it. I think this will be very beneficial and will really open up people's eyes to how bad bullying really is in this area!!!
